Harry Potter and the Mute Twin
Summary:
Before he was supposed to face Voldemort, Harry James Potter finds out that Dumbledore has been lying to and stealing from him and his friends weren't really his friends. The biggest lie of all, though, was that Dumbledore never died and he was waiting to claim that Harry was the next Dark Lord and kill him while simultaneously taking credit for Voldemort's death. All so he could have the death of three Dark Lords under his belt. Harry goes into a similar timeline as the Master of Death to his original one to redo his entire life. Only this time around, he's going to make things turn out the way he wants them to.
Chapter 1: Vanquishers of the Dark Lord
Violetta Lilith Potter and Hadrian Jameson Potter were twins, born to Lily and James Potter on the 31 of July, 1980. There was a prophecy written about these two; that they would vanquish a Dark Lord.
The twins with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approach,
Born to those who have thrice defied him,
Born as the seventh month dies,
And the Dark Lord will mark them as his equals,
But they will have a power the Dark Lord knows not,
And any must die at the hands of another,
For none can live while another survives...
This got the Potters and the Headmaster of Hogwarts, Albus Dumbledore, worried. They went into hiding with a close family friend, Peter Pittegrew, keeping the secret to their location. However, unbenounced to them, Pittegrew held loyalty to, not Dumbledore, but the Dark Lord Voldemort.
On the eve of Samhain, the Potters had gone out to a pub in Hogsmeade with Sirius Black and the Longbottoms, Alice and Frank. Little Neville Longbottom was left in the Potters' cottage in Godric's Hollow with Violetta and Hadrian. They hired a babysitter to watch them for the night while they were out.
Pittegrew went to Voldemort and gave him access to the Potter household. With this new information and a thirst for blood, the Dark Lord apparated to the house and blasted the front door off its hinges. Killing the babysitter along the way, Voldemort went to the second story, where the nursery was.
He blasted the door open and found the three babies babbling nonsense to each other. He scowled and pointed his original wand at one of the twins and his newer wand at the other. Hadrian paused his babbling to look Voldemort straight in the face. The other two followed suit. Hadrian held Voldemort's gaze calmly, no fear, awe, nor any other emotion. He was blank. The other two seemed to be attempting to copy him... and failing miserably. Neville was shaking and fear rolled off him in waves. Violetta was doing a better job, but the Dark Lord could still feel her fear as they locked gazes.
This unnerved Voldemort to no end. Why would a baby stare at him with such a blank look?
Shaking himself, Voldemort prepared to cast the curse that would end the childrens' lives.
"Avada Kedavra!" He shouted. Two bright green lights shot out of the wands, hitting each twin in the forehead. The Dark Lord began to laugh maniacally. Then, the spells shot back at him.
Voldemort swore he heard a small voice say, "Goodbye, Tom."
The Dark Lord screamed. It was a scream that could curdle blood and shatter eardrums. He screamed as his soul was torn in three, two pieces latching on to the closest living things (which just so happened to be Violetta and Hadrian), and the third drifting off to find a new vessel to inhabit. The house exploded with the sheer amount of magic in the air, rubble fell from the ceiling, hitting Violetta in the neck, damaging her voice box, and another piece fell on Neville, leaving a cut on his cheek.
The Potter twins were left with lightning bolt cuts on their foreheads, pieces of Voldemort's soul embedded within them.
Feeling magically depleted, Hadrian collapsed.
Half an hour later, the Potters, Longbottoms, Sirius Black, and Albus Dumbledore were checking to make sure that the children were okay. When Dumbledore didn't find anything wrong with Neville or Violetta, he moved on to Hadrian, who was still passed out. When Dumbledore searched over the boy with his magic, he flinched away.
"I am deeply sorry to be the one to tell you this, but young Hadrian's magical core is completely drained. It is likely that his magic will not replenish, and he will be a squib for the rest of his life."
James and Lily gasped.
"No... Harry, please no..." Lily cried. James tried to comfort her, but she could not be calmed. She only cried harder.
"I believe it would be best for him to grow up in the muggle world, away from magic. So he won't get jealous over what his sister has that he does not."
Lily and James, with tears in their eyes and heavy hearts, agreed and let Dumbledore go to Lily's sister's house and leave Hadrian there.
They later found that this was the worst decision they had made in their lives.
Chapter 2: The Dursleys and the Breakfast
I woke up to the sound of a shrill screech and glass shattering.
'Well, they leave me with the Dursleys in this timeline, too. Good to know,' I thought. The wicker basket I was laying in was picked up and hurriedly carried inside and carelessly thrown into the cupboard under the stairs. 'What's the point of being the Master of Death if I'm stuck in a place like this and am unable to use magic?'
I closed my eyes and entered my mindscape. The only thing I noticed that was different at first glance was the piece of Tom's soul, which was the same colour as the ocean. But when I looked again, I saw a small, barely noticeable purple ball of light, a piece of a soul, right next to Tom's.
I found this incredibly odd. Whose soul piece was this? And how did it get here in the first place? I reached out and touched the light before being overwhelmed with sensations.
I saw the familiar face of my mother peering down at me, well, not me but whoever's eyes I'm seeing through. Tears were trickling down her face and I heard her sniffle a few times.
"You look so much like your brother..." she whispered, "My poor Hadrian. What happened to you? Why was your core so drained?" she paused for a moment, as though hoping an answer would come to her, "Silly, silly Lily. He can't hear you... but I really wish he could."
I let go of the soul piece. Violetta's soul piece.
'So mum wants me to be with her. Why am I here then? Why doesn't she just come over here and pick me up herself?' I pondered this for a moment, 'Did they think me a squib and believed it better for me to live in the muggle world?' I scowled, 'Probably. Or maybe Dumbledore wanted me to be malleable when I reenter the magical world.'
I left my mindscape and opened my eyes. The familiar ceiling of the cupboard was all I could see.
'This is going to be a long ten years...'
~Time skip to March 17, 1985~
I'm four years old now and the Dursleys and I have been moderately civil. But I remember this date very clearly. It was the day they made me start doing all the chores around the house. In my first life, they had said that a boy my age ought to be working for my keep.
Sure enough, Vernon poked his head in my cupboard and told me that I would be working around the house from now on. I sighed inwardly.
'Goodbye leasure, hello endless pain and suffering,' I thought before leaving the cupboard I called my bedroom.
I moved throughout the kitchen swiftly, my cooking skills honed almost to perfection with roughly fifteen years of working like a house elf for the Dursleys. I grabbed the frying pan and a spatula and started making a breakfast that I knew I probably wouldn't be allowed to eat.
After everything was cooked, I took one of the plates that I had put the food on and walked over to the table, serving Vernon first before going back to grab Petunia's plate and serve her, then going back again for Dudley's plate. Vernon eyed me suspiciously. He was probably wondering how I got the food made and served so swiftly. I ignored his gaze and moved back to the kitchen to wash off the pan and spatula.
Right after I picked up the pan and was preparing to wash it, my ears rang with the sound of a little girl's voice crying out for help. The pan fell from my hand. I had heard that voice before; it was Violetta. She needed help.
Abandoning all logic, I ran out the back door and apparated away to Merlin-knows-where. I disappeared from Privet Drive with a pop.
I reappeared in what looked to be a forest. I could still hear the voice. Running to where I believed - no, knew - the voice was coming from, I jumped over roots and wound my way around the trees. The more I ran, the louder the voice got.
I came to a screeching halt when I saw the figure of a small girl with midnight black hair that went down to the middle of her back. She had tears streaming down her face and forest green eyes were alight with pain and sadness.
"Are you okay?" I asked. The girl jumped and looked up at me in fear.
'I can't speak, so how do I communicate with him? I don't know if he knows sign language!' I heard the same voice speak.
She looked away from me with sadness. Only then did I see the lightning bolt scar on her forehead.
"Are you Violetta Potter, by any chance?" She nodded but kept her gaze locked on the forest floor. Violetta tried to stand up, but winced and fell backwards onto the ground. "Did you hurt yourself?" She nodded, "Where?" She pointed at her left leg. I moved closer and noticed her flinch away. "Don't worry, I'm going to heal it."
I placed my hands gently on the place she indicated and let my magic heal the fractured bone. When I was finished, I reeled my magic back in and asked, "Do you want me to walk you back to your house?" She gave a simple nod in return.
I took her hand in mine and told her, "Lead the way."
Violetta led us through the forest with ease and then to a very large manor, one that could rival the Malfoy's. She went to the back door and knocked three times. When it opened, I saw the face of my father.
"Vi! Oh Merlin, you're okay! We were just about to send my whole Auror team to find you!"
*Father, this boy helped me when I got hurt in the forest. Could he stay for breakfast?* Violetta signed.
"Of course! Anyone who helps my daughter is welcome to eat with us!" James ushered us inside and practically dragged us into the dining room, where breakfast was supposedly being served.
James sat us down and took his own seat. Lily came inside a moment later with all the food levitating behind her. She set it all down gently and sat.
"Who is this, Vi?" Lily asked conversationally.
*He helped me when I got hurt in the forest. I never did get his name, though.*
"What's your name?" James asked me.
"My name is Harry, Mr. Potter," I lied. I really don't need them finding out who I really am.
"No need for the whole Mr. and Mrs. thing Harry. It makes us feel old." Lily joked, "You can call us Lily and James."
Breakfast went as one would expect, eating food and light conversation here and there. Soon, I had eaten my fill and excused myself from the table. Violetta jumped up and pulled me into a hug. I returned it easily and whispered in her ear, "If you ever need help, just call out my name in your mind and I will be there, okay?" She nodded and let go, returning to her chair. I ran into the forest so I was out of sight and apparated back to Number 4.
Chapter 3: Diagon Alley
Needless to say, I was beaten badly for my disappearing act that day. I had a black eye, a fractured wrist, bruises all over the place, and a scraped up knee. On top of all that, I had double the chores the next day.
'Well, at least I've earned the trust of my twin,' I thought as I washed the plates that had once held the Dursleys' dinner.
~Time skip to June 23, 1991~
It's Dudley's eleventh birthday today and they were going to go to the zoo, exactly like in my original timeline. The only difference was, they think that I'm not magical at all. Petunia heard from Lily that if a magical child doesn't show signs of accidental magic by the time they're seven, they are a squib.
Since I had not let any of my magic loose while staying with the Dursleys (except for that one time when I was four, which they thought I had just run outside and hidden somewhere), they also thought me to be a squib and had given me Dudley's second bedroom and trusted me a whole lot more than in my timeline. Vernon and Petunia even treated me like a second son!
They had asked if I wanted to come along, but I declined, saying that I'd watch the house for them. Vernon had said this was okay and let me stay there. I was standing outside, watching as they loaded everyone into the car.
"Bye, Harry!" Dudley yelled.
"Goodbye, Dudley!" I called back. The car drove off, and I went back inside.
Now, with no one around, I disillusioned myself and left the house and apparated to Diagon Alley; I had some things to do.
I reappeared in an alley in the middle of London, close to the Leaky Cauldron. Still disillusioned, I walked to the magical pub and went inside. I weaved my way around tables, chairs, and people and got to the back door which led to Diagon Alley. Once outside, I dropped the disillusionment charm and tapped my finger against the bricks to allow me entry.
Before the bricks could move out of the way completely, I placed a glamour on myself so I wouldn't be recognised and transfigured my muggle clothes into robes. The glamour made it look like I had straight, shoulder-length black hair with silver highlights, high cheekbones, and chocolate brown eyes. It also hid my scar.
I entered the Alley and walked with my back straight and a long, purposeful stride. I went to Gringotts bank and nodded to the goblins guarding the doors. They gave me slightly surprised looks, but otherwise ignored me.
Going up to the nearest goblin teller, I told him that I wanted to get an inheritance test.
"Name?"
"It's rude to ask someone's name without giving your's first," I said.
"Griphook."
"Hadrian Jameson Potter," The goblin raised an eyebrow, but said nothing of it.
"Follow me, Mr. Potter," I followed him as he led us through a door followed by lots of winding hallways. Finally, he opened a door and walked inside.
The room was an office, inside was a desk with a swivel chair behind it and two four-legged chairs in front of it. Griphook went behind the desk as I sat down and dropped the glamour. He rummaged through a drawer for a moment and then pulled out a gold, jewel-encrusted dagger and a yellowed parchment.
"Slice your palm with the dagger and let the blood dr-" he never got to finish his sentence because I had already cut my hand and the blood had dripped on the parchment. Once the words had formed I picked it up and read it.

Griphook snatched the paper out of my hand and read it over. His eyes widened until they were the size of dinner plates.
"All of this is illegal!" He yelled.
"He's powerful enough that he can get away with it. Really, Dumbles should be in Azkaban right now." I replied.
"Let's get these disgusting compulsions and potions off you, shall we?"
"Please." Griphook and I left the office and he brought us to a ritual room with runes drawn all over the floor.
"Stand in the middle of that rune," said Griphook. He pointed to the largest rune in the centre of the room. I nodded and stood on the rune. "This may hurt. A lot."
Griphook started chanting in Gobbledegook. There were a few words I understood, but it mostly sounded like gibberish. The most I could make out of it was, 'Remove... blocks... spells... potions... Albus Dumbledore... Molly Weasley... Hadrian Jameson Potter... Hecate... heed... call.' He continued to chant the same thing over and over.
Pain erupted throughout my body. My skin was on fire and my blood turned to ice. It felt like I was suffocating and time was moving in slow-motion. I screamed, and then passed out.
